Block 17

Portland, OR
An Urban Garden Retreat

Located on the north end of Portland’s bustling Pearl District neighborhood, Block 17 is a high-rise apartment building designed for a young, working-class clientele.

The block was developed with two distinct towers creating a central open space spine that features both open entertainment space for tenants as well as private terraces for podium-level units. Amenities include barbecue areas, group seating spaces, fireplace, individual seating areas, water features, and a rich garden planting palette.

The central plaza space, built above the parking spaces below, will capture stormwater from the adjacent roofs and move it through the garden as a seasonal feature to the garden and terminating in a waterfall on the north end of the garden as it transitions into the green street. The Project’s adjacency to the nearby Fields Neighborhood Park, a vibrant shopping district, and neighborhood amenities make it an ideal urban retreat in a garden environment.
